Kathryn Beaton was born with albinism. Due to albinism she is legally blind and is paired with a black Labrador Guide Dog named Zeke. Kathryn also has narcolepsy, which comes in handy when wanting to sleep through university lectures.
Despite her low vision and other health concerns Kathryn has finished her BA(Hons) in Professional Writing, Masters of Screenwriting and is now undertaking her PhD in Media and Communication. In her spare time Kathryn makes jewellery, knits and writes. She is committed to advocating for people with disabilities and helping people understand that disability does not always equal disadvantage.
Kathryn is confident to present to a variety of audiences from primary/secondary schools to corporate events and everything in between. If you are curious about how blind people know when their guide dog needs to go she is the one to ask.
If you would like to follow the adventures of Guide Dog Zeke he has a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/GuideDogZeke and blog http://guidedogzeke.blogspot.com.au/
