Delia Portlock is a retired nurse who met with a road accident in 1986, from which she sustained an acquired brain injury. She was in the coma for almost 6 weeks, after which her lifetime journey through rehabilitation begun. This was a very challenging time for Delia as she had to not only relearn how to walk and talk but also raise three young children by herself after her marriage collapsed.
Once Delia started regaining her independence she completed a graduate diploma in health counselling, she became the president of Headway Victoria for 12 years and she was also involved in the state disability advisory council.
Now Delia has become an advocate for people with a disability and encourages employers to give everyone a go and not to close off when one hears the words ABI or disability.
