Ann Hutchinson

Ann Hutchinson is a young woman who is putting her life back on track. She says “I look normal, but I have something one cannot see straight away.” She is referring to her acquired brain injury as a result of a stroke even at a young age. After undergoing a lot of therapy and rehabilitation, Ann learned to live a new life through the support of Guide Dogs Victoria that helped her with her vision impairment at the beginning, and then she also had to re-learn how to use public transport and make sense of her environment. Her life is full of doctor’s appointments she can no longer cope with how many she has in a year! Currently she is studying advocacy as Yooralla, and is involved with a brain injury group. She volunteers at an Op shop and does some speaking with Speakers Bank. These activities opened her eyes to the world of disability.

Ann’s mission is:
“I want to use my voice and remaining intelligence to be an advocate for the disabled and to raise awareness of the diversity in that world”
