Speakers Bank is excited to be a part of Sons of the West (SOTW) this year as some of our speakers will be giving talks around their lived experiences and challenges as persons with a disability. Peter Thomson, Brent Alford, and Evan Bichara will inspire the participants by sharing how they have overcome their personal challenges and how they are making a difference to the community through their public speaking and other volunteer work. Our speakers will be going around the different venues and groups organised by SOW throughout Victoria. We hope this will be a start of more collaborations to come.

Sons of the West is a free men’s health program run by the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation in partnership with local council and community health services. The program runs for 10 weeks and aims to empower men to lead healthier lives by giving them the knowledge, skills and networks to make healthy choices. Each week there is a presenter who delivers information on a health topic followed by an hour of physical activity supported by qualified exercise staff. SOTW is in its 5th year of operating in Melbourne’s Western suburbs of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Wyndham. Recently the program has expanded to more regional areas such as Ballarat, Golden Plains, Sunbury and Maryborough. If you are interested in joining SOTW or have a question about the program please contact info@sonsofthewest.org.au or call 9680 6191.
